How can I get involved?
You can get involved by volunteering, mentoring, or donating to our organization, and every contribution truly helps foster children thrive. Volunteering might look like helping with events, packing and delivering items, supporting special projects, or lending your professional skills behind the scenes. Mentoring is another meaningful way to make an impact by offering encouragement, consistency, and guidance to a young person who may not have a dependable support system. Donations—whether one-time or recurring—help fund essential resources, “normalcy” experiences, education support, and other needs that create stability for youth and relief for caregivers.
Even sharing our mission with friends, your workplace, or your community can make a difference by bringing more people into the circle of support. No matter how you choose to help, you’re joining a community that believes every child deserves hope, opportunity, and a future worth investing in.
What types of volunteer opportunities are available?
We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities so you can get involved in a way that fits your schedule, skills, and interests. This may include mentoring and youth support programs, helping plan and staff events, organizing drives, preparing care packages or program materials, and providing administrative or behind-the-scenes support that keeps our work running smoothly. Some volunteers prefer hands-on roles in the community, while others make a big difference through coordination, communications, data entry, fundraising support, or outreach.
No matter which role you choose, your time helps strengthen the network of care around foster youth and the families who support them. We’ll help you find the right fit, provide guidance on expectations, and ensure you feel confident in the role—because consistent, caring involvement is what creates stability, belonging, and lasting impact for the children we serve.
How can I contact your organization for support?
You can reach out to us anytime through the contact form on our website, or email us directly at info@fifk.org. We welcome questions of all kinds—whether you’re looking to volunteer, mentor, donate, partner with us, or learn more about the work we do for youth in foster care. Our team will review your message and respond as soon as possible, and if your request is time-sensitive, please include that in your note so we can prioritize it appropriately. We’re here to help and truly appreciate you taking the time to connect with Friends Investing in Foster Kids (FIFK).
What is the process for becoming a mentor?
To become a mentor, you’ll start by filling out an application form, completing a background check, and attending a training session. These steps help ensure you’re prepared, supported, and confident in your role, so you can provide consistent, effective encouragement to a foster child.
Are donations tax-deductible?
Yes—donations made to Friends Investing in Foster Kids (FIFK), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, are generally tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. After you donate, you will receive a donation receipt/acknowledgment that you can keep with your records for tax purposes. If you ever need a copy of your receipt or have questions about donation documentation, please reach out to us at info@fifk.org and we’ll be happy to help. Most importantly, your generosity directly supports youth in foster care and the families who care for them—helping provide essential resources, meaningful “normalcy” experiences, and opportunities that promote stability, hope, and brighter futures.
