Empowering Foster Children
We are about an unwavering commitment to youth in the foster care system—specifically youth connected to the Dallas County Child Protection and Permanency Court. At Friends Investing in Foster Kids (FIFK), we believe every young person deserves to feel safe, supported, and seen, and we never lose sight of a simple truth: these youth are part of our community. Their hopes, talents, and future contributions matter. Our mission is grounded in the belief that when youth are equipped with consistent support and meaningful opportunities, they can build stable, fulfilling lives and grow into confident, productive adults who feel connected to the world around them.
That’s why we focus our efforts on the areas that make the greatest long-term difference. We invest in education—because success in the classroom can open doors to scholarships, careers, and independence. We invest in social mobility by helping youth access experiences and resources that many peers take for granted, from school needs and extracurricular activities to enrichment opportunities that build confidence and belonging. We invest in therapeutic and wellness support, recognizing that many youth in foster care carry the weight of trauma, transition, and uncertainty. And we invest in career and workforce pathways, because stable employment and practical skills are key building blocks for independence, dignity, and long-term security.
Our commitment extends beyond youth alone. With the collective efforts of our board, and in partnership with Judge Gonzales, we also about the support families and caregivers who open their homes and hearts—often with little to no assistance—when youth are placed with relatives or kinship caregivers. These caregivers step up out of love and responsibility, but the day-to-day reality can be challenging. Many are suddenly navigating school systems, court processes, medical needs, and emotional support, all while managing household budgets and work schedules. FIFK works to reduce the strain so caregivers can focus on what matters most: providing a stable, nurturing environment where youth can heal, learn, and grow.
We also provide support for youth who need specialized treatment or services, ensuring they still have the chance to participate in normal life activities. Normalcy matters. It’s the ability to attend school events, join a team, celebrate milestones, go on a field trip, or simply feel included among friends. These experiences are not “extras”—they are essential to development, identity, and hope. When youth have access to everyday opportunities, they are more likely to build healthy relationships, stay engaged in school, and envision a future that is brighter than their past.
Ultimately, we believe that investing in both youth and the families who care for them creates a lasting, transformative impact. It is also about strengthening stability in the home, reinforcing a sense of belonging, and helping youth build the skills and resilience they need to succeed. Through community partnership, intentional support, and a commitment to dignity and opportunity, FIFK is helping foster youth move forward with confidence—knowing they are not alone and that their future is worth investing in. Please get involved by volunteering, mentoring, donating, or sharing our mission with others—your support helps create real moments of hope, normalcy, and opportunity. Whether you can give a few hours at an event, provide encouragement as a mentor, contribute a one-time gift, or become a monthly supporter, every step matters. Your involvement helps us respond faster to needs, expand programs, and reach more youth across Dallas County. Together, we can build a stronger network of care that reminds every child they are valued, supported, and capable of thriving. We appreciate all of the support to help this great cause.
